Northampton deserves a new hospital

The Government has proudly announced a list of 40 towns to get a new hospital. If you add in those that have already had purpose built new hospitals, it means that we’re the odd ones out.

Here’s the list of hospitals around about our town:

Coventry – new hospital completed 2006

Oxford – new wing at Radcliffe Hospital completed 2006; new Churchill Hospital completed 2009

Peterborough – new hospital completed 2010

Birmingham – new Queen Elizabeth Hospital completed 2010

Bedford & Luton – £100M capital programme approved August 2019

Leicester – £450M capital programme approved under HIP1 for delivery 2020-2025

Kettering – seed funding to plan capital programme under HIP2 for delivery 2025-2030

Milton Keynes – seed funding to plan capital programme under HIP2 for delivery 2025-2030

We’ve had some new facilities at NGH, but much of our sprawling hospital site is out of date, and both staff and patients deserve better facilities.
